Names for hedge witches, village herbalists and coven elders: earthy and lived-in, half whimsical and half uneasy, the sort neighbours mutter after dark.

Meanings come from this genre's invented word list, made for the generator: they aren't real-world etymology.
Witch names start in the garden. In the generator's invented glossary, Hem stands for hemlock, Net for nettle, Ver for vervain, Mal for mallow and Brom for broom, while Sab is a black cat and Mab a moth. Soft, mossy sounds (l, m, n, w) open them and murmuring codas such as -th, -mb and -ss close them.
Endings decide who she or he is. Feminine -etta reads as clever and -essa as keeper of herbs; masculine -oth means of the old ways and -ias far-sighted; neutral -ryn is rune-marked.
Family names come from field edges and churchyards: Bramble, Thistle, Mistle, Gallows or Crow, then wort, hazel, moss or weald, then -croft, -combe, -fen or -well. They sound like the cottage at the end of a lane that nobody visits without a reason.
Several of the hand-picked examples keep it simple, a plain word on each side: Hazel Bane, Silas Yew, Rowan Moss, Rue Elder. If a generated first name feels too ornate, roll that half again and keep the surname.
Tone matters more here than in most genres. Soft brings dew, rue and willow, right for a herbalist with a cottage full of drying flowers. Mysterious adds gloam, hush and wisp; chaotic gives jinx, fizz and cackle, ideal for an apprentice whose potions keep bubbling over.
For the eldest of a coven, try powerful, which reaches for crone, warden and stone.
